Seeing other points of view is good. But, it helps to see your internal model of them as just models, sepatate mental objects in their own right, not to actually adopt it and think in it as the (I can't put it any better) foreground process.
Another benefit of reminding yourself that they're just models is that you don't fall into the trap of thinking you empathise well enough to not actually pay attention to the other person. I'm not saying Mr T (Foo') does this, but it is a potential trap.
