In other news, it seems to have become hot again. What I need is a robot servant who I can leave at home to guard the house, so that the windows can safely be left open when I'm out. Or chilled ceilings, perhaps (the obvious counterpart to the Romans' under-floor heating).

I hear the cat's taken to head-butting Drswirly. It appears to be very placid.
I am with you on the chilled ceilings. What I want to know is when exactly architechts lost the ability to design natural airflow into a building?
Presumably this was at about the same time that they decided amphitheatres didn't work, and that big brick boxes would work soo much better, which was blatantly not the case.

Hmm. How about a chilled ceiling in an eggbox sort of shape, with the aim of encouraging condensation to run down to the lowest points where there are cups to catch it and capillaries to pipe it off to somewhere out of the way? Would that work?
