You'd certainly expect it to, if nothing else because you'd be more tired! I just rather liked the thought that if I take some exercise every time I can't sleep, then I'm guaranteed to get plenty of exercise if and only if I don't start sleeping better :-) Perhaps at some point the exercise will cause my sleep to improve, at which point I'll stop taking so much exercise, get less fit, start sleeping badly again, start taking exercise and so on, eventually converging to some equilibrium point where I'm perpetually not quite fit enough to sleep properly...
