Ho hum. My life must be getting boring again if I'm going for a week without writing in this diary…

So, last week I was absolutely exhausted and had announced an intention to lay off all unnecessary coding for a few weeks to recover. Unfortunately, within 24 hours of writing that diary entry, I went to World of Computers and bought a very shiny new 19-inch flat screen for my main home computer. This has given me New Toy Syndrome with a vengeance, and I've been unable to resist finding excuses to use my computer so I can go ‘ooh’ at the new monitor… But I don't feel too tired right now, so perhaps my increased caution has been helping in spite of this. We'll see.

This weekend I bought a portable electric radiator for my bedroom, since it's the only room in the house without dependable heating (a small gas burner on one wall doesn't seem like a terribly good idea to leave on overnight, particularly since I can't smell gas leaks!). I hope the moving-related expenditures are now over, but I'm not hopeful; I thought I was done last week after I got some DECT phones to deal with the unhelpful placement of phone sockets in the new flat, but there always seems to be something else I suddenly decide I could do with.

Ooooh - which make of shiney new 19" flat screen was it ? I've been lusting after a Samsung SM191T for quite a while now (its on hold until I finish [livejournal.com profile] ejde's attic). I'm probably going to get it from WOC since I prefer local places I can go shout at if things go wrong... especially when its a screen :) That and WOC have very competitive prices, even compared to online places.

Mine's the iiyama AS4831D, because that's the only one WoC stock that will do 1600x1200 - which is the non-negotiable requirement that has prevented me buying any flat screens up until now.

(Yes, it was hellishly expensive. But I've wanted one ever since they cost around L4000, so on that basis I think I was very restrained to wait until now :-)

Ah - that makes sense. To be honest I'm probably going to be happy with the 1280x1024 that the Samsung does... especially given that I've only got a 17" monitor which is in 1024x768 mode right now :)

Or maybe your life's sufficiently interesting that you're not reduced to killing time by posting to LJ? ;)

*grin* That does happen, but I'm fairly sure it hasn't happened this week or I'd have noticed :-)

(It is odd, that. When I post to LJ most, my life is at the most medium of points. Too interesting and I don't post so much; too boring and there's nothing to post. Interesting bits with periods of boredom in between seem to be optimal...)
