So, as predicted I did have to come in early this morning for a conference call to Japan; and I left home in good time to do so, only to find that there was a nasty-looking car accident on Elizabeth Way and I was delayed for fifteen minutes while the police tried to direct traffic safely past it. So I didn't get in nearly as early as I'd planned to, and if it hadn't been for a mix-up over phone numbers having delayed the start of the conference call it would have been hardly worth me having bothered…
Eventually I got to my desk, had just opened up my morning mail-reading session and general warming-up stuff, and was instantly dragged away to what our division head called ‘the next in an ongoing series of Team Briefs’. I hope I wasn't the only person who immediately thought ‘ah, he means it's a pile of pants’; I might go round calling them Team Boxers for a while, just to see who picks up the reference and whose career fixation has eclipsed their sense of humour :-)
Coming hot on the heels of a weekend which I began by collapsing from too much hecticness, all this wasn't entirely welcome. I feel another unproductive week coming on :-(
Ah, is that what caused the gridlock.
Can't find anything about the accident in the CEN; anybody know what actually happened?
It was hard to see exactly what had happened, but there was a pickup truck and a car facing one another on one side of the road with smashed-in fronts, so my best guess would be that the car had inexplicably driven on to the wrong side of the road and done a head-on into the pickup. Didn't look pleasant, whatever it was...
Well, we were already late heading off, and then we tried to go a different way to avoid the traffic, and ended up going through two different sets of accident-related near-gridlock, plus all the morning traffic up Milton Road / Cowley Road. (Compared to that, the A14 was a breeze.) I don't think it actually delayed us by an hour, but I ended up being about an hour late for work (whereas usually I'd only be 10 minutes or so late).
