Perhaps it's time I stopped buying cheap umbrellas. Last night I walked around the town centre for a bit, with what was probably a suspicious bulge in my inside coat pocket. The bulge was caused by my umbrella, which I was keeping close at hand in case it became necessary. It became necessary when I was en route back to the car, along with Elise to whom I'd volunteered to give a lift home. Rain started to fall. Aha, I said, I have come prepared; and I pulled out my umbrella and gave thanks to my foresight.
I put the umbrella up, and it promptly bent through 90 degrees at the point where the shaft and the canopy met, and then broke off. This left me holding, one in each hand, something resembling a large curved Frisbee and something resembling a rapier with a U-shaped handle. Neither of which was really competent to shelter me or my prospective passenger from the elements; but at least it provided amusement, and then the rain stopped anyway...
Other than that, another week has gone by with little to distinguish it. At least, little that's non-geeky, which says something about how I've been spending the last week of my long holiday :-)
... Oh, except that yesterday I took delivery, at long last, of Babylon 5 Season 1 on DVD, in glorious widescreen. Woo! Now all I have to do is find out whether the four or five people who expressed an interest in watching it with me are all going to be free at the same time. I strongly suspect not; so I wonder what I should do about that...
