Murphological hat-trick

When I did my shopping on the way home from work last night, I remembered (unusually for me) to buy a bottle of nice booze to take to post-pizza. Therefore, of course, Murphy's Law dictated that this would be one of the rare evenings on which post-pizza either didn't happen or didn't tell me where it was happening. (On no evidence at all I'll take a flying guess that the beer festival might have been involved, but the proximate cause is unimportant really.)

On Saturday [livejournal.com profile] lnr left her mobile in my flat after my B5 showing, and said she'd come back for it at some point on Sunday. So I made a special effort to get dressed early in the day rather than slobbing about in my dressing gown until mid-afternoon as is my normal habit on Sundays, and therefore of course Murphy's Law dictated that she didn't make an appearance after all.

And on Thursday I was hoping to see somebody in the pub who I'd been trying to persuade to turn up there, and like a total idiot I put some stuff in my bag which would have been a terribly cunning thought had she shown up. You can guess where this is going, can't you?

In summary: within the past seven days, Murphy has defeated me three times with the same trick. He must think I'm a complete idiot. I'm not entirely sure I disagree.

It was at Relativity, which is the first place I phone if I don't know where it is, since it's most often there.

I usually ask someone in advance to tell me where it is, though, if I want to go without first going to pizza.

It normally proactively phones me, although I'm aware that most people are expected to phone around looking for it. (Ian once justified this on the grounds that for most people the approved way to find out the location of post-pizza is to come to pizza, but for me in particular that's not a viable option owing to circumstances beyond my control :-)

Still, the booze will keep until next week, unless I find another excuse to drink it before then.

Incidentally, is it you I have to prod to get list moderation done on sgo-software-announce?

I suggest poking Ian to get yourself made a moderator, so you can approve your own announcements. That's what I did...

Never ever ever be that prepared. Murphy KNOWS. Better not to have a toothbrush...

Ah, but if you hadn't brought stuff, and you'd stayed in your dressing gown, your friends would think you're a complete idiot. And whose opinion do you care more about, theirs or Murphy's?

Hey, I don't think Simon's an idiot when he's in his dressing gown :) I think he looks all endearingly untidy.

To be honest I wouldn't have minded in the least. Reason I didn't make it is I fell asleep mid-afternoon. Sorry I'm a nuisance!

To be fair, actually, I was less worried about you catching me in my dressing gown as I was about you getting me out of a long bath :-)

That's a good guess. I wish we had have thought of it, though maybe in rain wouldn't have been as fun.

So I made a special effort to get dressed early in the day rather than slobbing about in my dressing gown until mid-afternoon as is my normal habit on Sundays,

Surely part of the point of dressing gowns is to be acceptable dress for friends? Though I've taken to wearing T-shirt/boxers as pyjamas, where in an emergency trousers can make me socially acceptable[1].

[1] Acceptably *dressed*. It'd take a lot more than trousers to make me socially acceptable in my self :)

My team leader did go beerfesting last night, and tells me that it was indeed exceptionally muddy.

Dressing gowns: see above.

Ah, yes. Obviously what we need is an all encompassing waterproof dressing gown with a jaccusi *inside it*.
