I don't know, if you edited it because you were worried that people would be offended by some other phrase you would have used, I'm probably amused because it's a more polite way of stating the more offensive thought in my head.

*blinks* I don't think I thought of offensiveness at any point. I wanted to say that the boots were off-puttingly expensive, but at the same time I also wanted to say that they were in a style which would probably go better with expensive smart trousers than with (say) jeans, and thus I'd expect them to be bought by people who were generally willing to spend a lot on their clothes. Implying that lot in a few words is hard to do well, so I had to try a few times before I got roughly the right tone. That's all really.

(Now I'm curious to know what "more offensive" thought you had in mind!)

I would have put that concept in the following way:
"made so that they can only be bought by rich tossers to go with rich tossers' clothes, because those of us who aren't rich are obviously going to want to wear Nike trainers and nothing else for the rest of our lives. Tossers."
