| Something amazing happened the other day. I phoned someone up, Parcelforce, and they were engaged. Not had that happen to me for years. So I pressed five, put the phone down and got on with housework. When they were done, the phone rang me back and connected me. Very civilised. The alternatvie of this hold-thing reminds me of Verisign's SiteFinder, both are subverting an apparently 'negative' response and assuming it has no value, replacing it with a 'positive' one, which has less! It reminds me of the way people hide behind apparent distinctions between the passive and active. |
