I think I'm revising my opinion on my body clock.

I used to think that it had been trained by years of regular employment to wake me up at 8am without fail, including weekends and the first week and a half of any long holiday. I'm now starting to believe that it's merely out of sync with my working week.

Around the middle of the week, on Wednesday or Thursday, I'm starting to get sufficiently tired from the week's work that my body could do with a lie-in. So when the alarm goes off at eight, I tend to hit the snooze button and wish I could stay in bed for another hour or so. But two days after that, my body clock has worked out that the lie-in it's asking for isn't going to come its way, so it resigns itself to 8am starts – just at the point when Saturday rolls round and I don't need to get up at 8 any more.

So, if only the weekend happened on Wednesday and Thursday, I'd have some fabulous lie-ins and feel utterly refreshed. Until my body clock adapted to the new schedule and got itself out of sync again, of course. Ho hum.
