Heh. I bet for everyone else in this part of town, that power cut was an inconvenience…

… but not me. I'd been meaning to switch round some N-way power adapters in my flat anyway – change a 4-way to an 8-way in the study to be able to plug more things in, move the 4-way into the kitchen so the microwave can be somewhere more sensible and the power cable will still reach, that sort of thing – and I hadn't yet got round to actually powering the computers down to do the job. So when the power went off while I was slumping in front of the DVD player, I grabbed a torch, made all the changes, and had just got the last of the bits and pieces plugged back together by the time it came back on. I call that thoroughly good timing on the part of the power company. :-)

I don't mind power outages *grin*. Sure there's no cooking facilities but at least the servers are on UPS and my laptop has 8 hours of battery life so I can keep surfing. Surely that is the most important thing?

Hmph. It caught us half way through making dinner, and given that the last power cut lasted the best part of 12 hours, we decided abandonning that plan and heading for the chippy was in order. Naturally, it was back on by the time we got back. (And the firewall did not want to come back up cleanly. Must seriously consider UPS.) Mind you, it's a bit odd if it was the same outage as you had, given that as far as we could see only the top half of our road was out.
