This is, in fact, a well-attested manifestation of sexism -- or at least one that's joked about a lot, by men pretending to be crap at housework and logistics and generally being an equal partner (in a Traditional Shape of Relationship) so that even their half-arsed efforts end up getting praised in a desperate attempt at positive reinforcement.

Not All Men, etc, but if you are looking for more discussion of this phenomenon that's where I'd start!
