Have you read "The Design of Everyday Things" (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0262640376/qid=1105361815/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/202-4427501-1463811), or any other of Donald Norman's works? Sounds like you might enjoy them. I'd be happy to lend you that one if you want, actually, if I can find it.
