Bah. This is now peak hayfever season as far as I'm concerned.

Every year, at least for the last few years, I have watched all my hayfever-suffering friends dissolve into little puddles of agony around May or June, sniffed experimentally, felt fine, and wondered if I was actually going to get away with it this year. Then, around mid-July, the first sneezing fits start to hit me and I remember that I just get it later in the year than most people.

I don't think I've heard anyone else complain about hayfever for weeks now. But I nearly exploded when I went out to buy lunch an hour ago, and my pills are not helping.

In other annoyance: the animal rights protesters came back today and blew their stupid horn outside the next office building again. And a colleague tells me that one of them has come over to our car park and has been sticking leaflets under everyone's windscreen wipers. Bah.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/pollen/ suggests that it's weed pollen that peaks in August, and is a problem for 20% of hayfever sufferers.

When they were protesting against us some members of staff received threats, and one had their car windows broken. So it could be a lot worse - so far yours seem merely irritating rather than malicious.

I always suffer at this time of year too - and the extreme heat makes me much worse. Spending next week camping is going to be fun (well it'll be good fun over all, but hayfever wise it'll be a bit tricky).

If your pills aren't working then go to your doctor and ask for a different type - some types work better for different people.

Throw small rodents at them from the windows. Either that or tip a rats nest on them and see how much they want to protect the cute animals.

Sometimes I wonder about turning their tactics back on them: photograph them all, follow them home, and stick leaflets through their neighbour's doors saying 'This person is a THUG and supports INTIMIDATION of innocent PEOPLE'. Or have demos outside their houses waving pictures of cancer victims and old people with Alzheimer's or play the amplified sounds of people with hayfever or asthma.

Or perhaps mass-mail the membership lists of these organisations with invitations to volunteer for medical research and leaflets with really gory details of unpleasant medical conditions.

Sounds like a good plan to me.

I got *very* angry with an animal rights protestor at the Race for Life. All she kept saying was 'think of the animals' when there were 3000 runners who were all either survivors of cancer or had lost someone to cancer or knew someone still fighting.

The nasal steroid sprays have been a real revelation for me this year in dealing with hay fever symptoms: Beconaize (sp?) is the brand name but Tesco do a clone. Almost instant and complete relief from the symptoms.

Beconase. How I learned how to inhale while squirting a puff of funny stuff up my nose.

Terfenadine works for me, but breaks down into X and Y, where X is the useful bit that is now sold separately, and Y is bad somehow (for your heart?). Unfortunately, I can't remember what X is.

I've been sneezing a lot recently, but I'm still in denial about it and thus think it might just be a cold...
