In other news … I've now finished moving stuff into my new flat. (I haven't yet finished moving stuff out of the old one, but whether they go to the tip, the next tenant or some other deserving soul none of the things I've left there are coming to the new place.) And I've even solved one of the tricky problems, namely running a network cable from the study to the lounge for the PS2. (In order to get the cable through existing holes in the wall, I cut the plug off the end and then borrowed Steve's crimp tool to put a new one on in situ. Borrowing Steve's crimp tool turned out to be a quite time-consuming process, since Steve kindly came with it to make sure the job was done right and then we got sidetracked playing Sumo for a bit :-)
So the other tricky problem to be solved is the fact that the only working phone socket is in the hall and really I'd like phones in the study and the lounge. My options are to either run yet another cable (not fun – tacking the ethernet cable round the study door was an entertaining job since there were three cables running that way already! Yet another would be even worse…) or simply to splash out on cordless. I suspect I know which it will be.
Speaking of telephones, a brief *grrr* to people who think it's sensible to phone someone at 7:30am on the off-chance that they might be out of bed. Surely if you have the slightest reason to believe they might still be in bed you should avoid phoning them on the off-chance that they are? Gah. Still, I shouldn't have to do business with this person for much longer, so it won't happen much more…
