Might it be easier to set up a repository of common sense which you examine when buying things (whether coffee jars, watches, office space, or whatever)? Then the magic of capitalism would drive all the stupid products out of the market (hopefully by companies twigging on to the repository).

Might such repositories even already exist somewhere on the web? (I’ve not checked, sounds like the sort of thing Which might be into, though they probably want you to pay.)
